How Trump Wins

Islamist terror in Orlando, mass police murders in Dallas, angry street protests in cities across the United States. The specifics are different, but the level of political disorder compares to 1968, the year of Martin Luther King’s assassination and the Tet offensive in Vietnam. Republican Richard Nixon exploited the resulting anger and fear and won the presidential election that fall on a martial vow to make America safe again, beating Democrat Hubert Humphrey’s limp promise of appeasement.
